Bad news:
lil_shepherd tells me Ivan Southall has died. I regret not telling him how wonderful I thought Let the Balloon Go was. I read it before I knew that one could write fan letters. Resolved: write fan letter to Kathleen Jones, whose Ayslums and After: A revised history of mental health services I am enjoying at lunch-times at the moment.
Yesterday's go-home-earliness has turned into the office head cold. I must try not to pass it on to the Cultural Services Management Team who I am going to see in a few hours. Snishoo!
The Heritage Protection Bill did not make the Queen's speech. I would quite like to give Simon Thurley my cold.
ExMemSec ordered our Christmas card stamps online, and they are now at the post office depot (a ten minute walk beyond the post-office) waiting for me to get there to collect them.
Several of my friends (and one of the nicest cars) are having a hard time of it at the moment.
Good news: it looks as if it is possible to fly to Ottowa in August for not unreasonable amounts of money, and to go by train from there to Montreal.
Good news: I am to have a desk previously-loved desk that will fit nicely into the space between the book case and the tv. It has a 1930s feel to it, which I like. Thanks guys!
got to run ... Broggy is licking the archive!!!!

The Canada trip is for Worldcon, right? (We might be heading off to Philadelphia around then).
I was also going to ask this (in a less informed way). But why are you going to Philadelphia wellinghall?
A Uni friend of adaese's is getting married out there (she's English, and he's American).
The previously-loved desk sounds much nicer than a tacky new one. I always prefer solid old furniture that has obviously been well-used.
Oh, also, glad to hear about the desk and sorry to hear about the Snishoos. | |
